Darlene Tucker was working for a company in the engineering field, when suddenly the company decided to take away one of her PTO days. “I was like, ‘That’s it. I’ve had enough,’” says Tucker, who is now the owner of Solidus Technical Solutions. “We started a company that respects our employees and their engineering work and what they do for us, and we provide a resource for them to be able to work with other companies,” she says.
Quick Tip: “If you don’t respect and trust the people who are doing the everyday work, your work will become much harder.”
Tucker says her role as a leader is to listen to the people on her team so she can identify resources when an issue arises. Together with her business partner, Tucker talks through options, talks to the people who have their hands in a project and determines what it will take to make something happen. One important aspect of every decision, says Tucker, is ensuring that Solidus is staying true to its core values and purpose.
Solidus and Tucker are dedicated to giving back to the community as well. For example, Solidus supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and is also committed to helping veterans through various organizations.
