Committing to wellness: O’Donnell & Naccarato, Inc.’s wellness program began in 2011 as a way to contain health insurance costs. “The program has since taken on a life of its own and transformed [us] into a health-conscious workplace,” says president Anthony Naccarato. The company’s wellness committee consists of four employees from different departments, representing different needs and interests. This helps ensure that O’Donnell & Naccarato’s wellness initiatives reach as many employees as possible.
FUN FACT: The winner of 2015’s Biggest Loser competition at O’Donnell & Naccarato lost 28.2 pounds.
Special perks: O’Donnell & Naccarato offers monthly lunch-and-learns, workshops on topics such as meditation and financial wellness, nutrition counseling sessions and flu shots. “We recently added employee-led cooking demonstrations and Iron Chef Healthy Lunch challenges,” says Naccarato. The company has also relied on point-based competitions to boost engagement with its wellness program. The employee with the most points at the end of the year receives extra PTO.
Solid results: “The program has been in place for five years, and there has been a shift during this time,” says Naccarato. “Employees are much more mindful of their health. More employees reach for water than sodas, and company lunches and events include healthy food options.” In addition, the staff at O’Donnell & Naccarato has shown increased interest in fundraising. Each year during the holidays, the company adopts a family and raises money to buy presents.
