ESQ Service Area Firm – Large
Dentons US LLP does a significant amount of corporate transactional work. In any engagement, the firm’s attorneys first seek to get to know the client and understand his business needs — whether the client needs help handling a transaction or litigation services after a transaction goes bad. Another main focus for Dentons is counseling clients who want to branch out from the U.S. to international markets or vice versa. The firm is easily able to do this because it has lawyers in jurisdictions around the world, including growth markets in China and Africa. This approach also contributes to consistency of service, enabling clients to work with one person who knows them.
QUICK TIP “Always seek out a ‘Rabbi’ — somebody who can help you navigate through whatever corporate environment you’re in.”
In one engagement, Dentons was asked by the general counsel of an alternative investment firm to advise on the proper documentation needed to file a claim for more than $10 million against a debtor located in Mexico. If the 10-day deadline for filing was not met, the client would lose the right to receive any return from the debtor. Dentons advised the client on the suite of documents required and on the proper procedures to prepare the documents for authentication and acceptance in Mexico. Unfortunately, delayed and incorrect paperwork from the client’s custodian cost the client a lot of time, meaning the Dentons team had to quickly find creative, alternative ways to prepare and authenticate the documents. Ultimately, the filing was completed on time.
